This is the group of smiling faces that make first contact with our members and guests as they enter the sanctuary to worship. A friendly handshake and nice conversation can sometimes break the ice when entering a new or unknown space. Team Hello’s goal is to make your visit with us as comfortable and pleasant as possible. In the United Church of Christ we believe in giving our guests an “extravagant welcome.” First UCC has often been referred to as “the friendly church” in Shelby.
A team headed up by our church youth, who make sure all sound, video and computer production is ready and accessible for worship.
A team that keep our facilities clean and beautiful from week to week.
A team of adult volunteers assisting the Lead Pastor in the church office throughout the week.
The LOVE group plans fun activities, trips, and events. These events are always open to anyone in the church. The Love Group is the fun group!
A group open to any age or any fitness level. Fitness club is a weekly challenge against yourself. A chance to get healthy, and win a monthly prize. For more info. See- Allison Fordyce
Adult Sunday School
A group that meets Sunday mornings (except for the first Sunday of the month) on the third floor of the educational wing at 9:00am. The adult Sunday school class incorporates many elements into the discussion of multiple topics. Sometimes we will read chapters from a book and discuss the writing. Other times we will watch videos and discuss. It is a good chance to learn from one another, as it is a group lead class.
Since 1945 the Guild has played an active role here at First Church. Interested in learning more?- See Martha Grimwood.
First UCC Food Pantry
Every Sunday worshipers are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items and toiletries to do donate to Shelby Helpline Ministries and our own in church food pantry. Half of all donated items stay here at the church to help out members and friends who might be in need, and the other half gets sent to Shelby Helpline ministries. Want to help out?? Grab an extra can or two of food, or some toilet paper or soap the next time you go shopping!
